THE specification of underfloor heating (UFH) within projects brings a requirement for underlays that provide a low tog value to allow the maximum amount of heat to pass through and for the system’s efficiency to be maintained. It is also important to consider the combined tog value of the underlay and the floorcovering.
For example, the combined tog value of a carpet underlay combined with a domestic tufted carpet can vary considerably, with values well in excess of 3.0 tog possible. The Underfloor Heating Manufacturers Association (UHMA) specifies a combined tog rating of the underlay and floorcovering of less than 2.5 for the system to operate efficiently.
Floorwise provides specialist underfloor heating underlays for use beneath carpet and wood and laminate floorcoverings. These underlays are not only designed to deliver a minimum tog value for a low combined value, but also to not degrade with constant exposure to heat. They also help to maintain comfort and provide the support necessary to enhance the life of the floorcovering. By reducing the effects of wear, a carpet with underlay can last as much as 40% longer than a carpet specified without underlay.
Although a popular choice beneath carpet for a combination of value, comfort and resilience; with ratings often in excess of 2.0 tog PU foam underlays should not be used with underfloor heating systems. So, Floorwise has created Thermaflow Impact, a heavy contract use carpet underlay designed specifically for use with UFH. Using a sponge rubber waffle construction, Thermaflow Impact has a low tog value of 0.79 while maintaining comfort and support for the carpet. Suitable for most types of underfloor heating and all carpet types, it features a Textron paper backing for extra stability and also helps to reduce impact noise by 34dB.
For wood and laminate floors in combination with UFH, then Acoustica Thermaflow has a 0.22 tog rating from its premium rubber construction. At just 3mm thick, the underlay provides support for joints of wood and laminate floors and absorbs minor subfloor imperfections for better stability. It also reduces impact noise by 22dB for a quieter floor.
Manufactured to high standards, all Floorwise Thermaflow underlays exceed relevant British Standards and industry norms, so that you can be sure of a quality, reliable underlay. The Floorwise Thermaflow collection is suitable for domestic and commercial installations and available at distributors across the UK and Ireland.
