RUBBER carpet underlays are available in two main types: rubber crumb and rubber sponge.

The construction types offer different characteristics, so attention should be paid to the type of rubber underlay specified depending on the requirements of the project.

Rubber crumb
For commercial projects such as hospitality suites and conferences areas, which require lasting performance and the reliability and security of double-stick carpet installation, rubber crumb underlays are an excellent solution. Thanks to a high-density material with excellent resilience, they provide the ultimate in long-term recovery to avoid rucking and premature wear. They increase the life of heavyweight commercial carpets and are designed to withstand wheeled traffic and high footfall levels.

These underlays use a dense crumbed rubber from recycled car tyres combined with a stabilising backing layer to produce lasting performance and good comfort levels. Woven Polyester & Glass Fibre backings are specifically made for double stick installations offering all round dimensional stability. Suitable for use with both tufted and woven carpets, they are the preferred choice for projects that need to ensure durability from areas constantly in use. Rubber crumb underlays are also excellent sound insulators, reducing impact noise by as much as 34dB.

Floorwise offers a range of rubber crumb underlays for heavy contract use, included Vigour and Endura (6.75mm), Champion & Optima (8mm).

Rubber sponge
There are a few types of rubber sponge, but the most common would be the blown rubber that creates a waffle like surface. Available in various weights they are for general, and luxury use beneath carpet. Offering an excellent balance between underfoot comfort and durability, rubber sponge waffle is a tried and tested solution for stretch fit installations.

The sponge construction ensures excellent sound absorption characteristics, with impact noise reduction of 38dB for Floorwise Pinnacle & 46dB for Floorwise Inspiration underlay. Floorwise also offers a specialist rubber sponge Thermaflow underlay for use with underfloor heating, with a tog rating of 0.79.

Manufactured to high standards, all Floorwise rubber underlays exceed relevant British Standards and industry norms, so that you can be sure of a quality, reliable underlay. They are available at Floorwise distributors across the UK and Ireland.
