THE Solid Wood Flooring Company takes great pride in the sustainability of our floors. We’re FSC and PEFC certified, all our products are sourced from either FSC or PEFC certified forests. We actively plant oak trees in the UK, for every tree we use we replace it and plant three more. We use Eco shipping methods to make transport carbon neutral. We never harvest protected species or from rainforests.
The Solid Wood Flooring Company cares considerably about sustainability. That’s why we’ve made it a policy to only source from well managed legal sustainable forests and be responsible not only to the environment but also our clients, staff, and contractors.
We unreservedly condemn illegal logging or sourcing material from deforested regions. Therefore, we never harvest materials from rainforests and will not manufacture some exotic wood species, as sadly so much timber from these areas comes from questionable sources. With modern oiled finishes, we can create a vast choice of colour tones on oak flooring; so it seems so wasteful that people are still selling flooring that comes from our ever reducing rainforests.
We only manufacture our own wooden flooring and can therefore control the sources of our raw material unlike a large number of our competitors who buy from traders.
We are FSC®️ certified and PEFC™️ certified, with full chain of custody. This means that all our certified flooring can be traced to the responsibly managed forest where it was harvested. This is just one of the ways we ensure all our products are sustainably sourced.
The Solid Wood Flooring Company in partnership with GoneWest
We are proud to be part of the ‘Gone West’ mission of planting long term forest in England. Please be assured our prices will not increase because of this.
Our commitment is to plant 4,000 (four thousand) new oak trees every year, and if we use approximately 1,000 oak trees every year for our Oak Wood Flooring it means we are planting 3 new trees for every mature tree we cut down.
Once an oak tree reaches full maturity it takes less carbon from the atmosphere so we need to plant new forests and regenerate our old ones. Many lessons have been taught to us throughout the trying year of 2020, and The Solid Wood Flooring Team are even more dedicated than before, to continue our commitment of sustaining our planet home, whilst creating stunning interior spaces for our likeminded clients.
Our history
Martyn Ryder established the company after extensive research into the flooring market and in particular wood flooring. In general the quality of cheap imports and lack of home grown products meant there was an opportunity to develop high quality hardwood flooring jointly with interior designers and architects.
We pride ourselves on the service we offer and being a family company, working on the principles of high quality products, good service and competitive pricing.
The research started back in the 1980s when Martyn was in the development business, refurbishing grade I and Grade II listed properties and realised there was no wood flooring competitively priced that would meet what was needed to ensure the integrity of the conversion was in keeping with the era.
It took three years to complete the research and development of the first 10 lines of solid wood and engineered floors, which then became the top quality engineered hardwood flooring you now see in our range. There is a limitless range of finishes and colours available using either our prefinished floors or unfinished boards.
Since then we have exported to more than 25 countries and continents around the world including Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Malta, Azerbaijan, Columbia and the USA.
A large proportion of our wood floors have been designed and manufactured to exacting specifications created by architects and interior designers. We only use the latest, state-of-the-art machines, adhesives and finishes and are always striving to continually develop our products and increase the range of wood flooring options.
Our team
The expert team at the Solid Wood Flooring Company have more experience than any other company and this can be seen by the amount of technical advice on the web site. We ensure all our staff are fully trained and endeavour to offer the best, most friendly, and professional service in such a diverse industry.
This is why it is our philosophy not to have a web site where you can buy online. The purchase of a wood floor is a high ticket item and corners should not be cut for the sake of a few pounds. Neither should people go into such a purchase, blind to the consequences of buying a wood floor that has not been properly manufactured, and then fitted badly.
We have horrendous stories of people filling their basket on a web site only to find that the floors lifts, buckles and twists just a few weeks after being fitted all for the sake of a few pounds.
